Windows 8 System Restore

The Windows 8 System Restore feature allows you to undo the last changes made. This feature will be useful when user actions or a software failure have led to a partial loss of computer performance. In such a case, you can rollback to restore the original functionality.

Windows recovery options

In total, there are three types of recovery: checkpoints, uninstall updates, and hard reset. Each of them allows you to solve a number of problems associated with the incorrect operation of Windows.

Method 1: Breakpoints

Initially, the system is configured in such a way that it automatically tracks changes to its components and creates backups. They are called Windows 8 restore points. These are the states of the computer at a certain point in time.

If a software problem occurs while performing any actions on the PC, the system can be rolled back to the previous configuration. The result will be the removal of some components or changes in settings. But at the same time, the problem will be fixed.

Instructions for rollback in this way:

  1. Open the Control Panel (the easiest way to do this is through Search), switch the display of elements to icons.
  2. Select the “Restore” icon.Restore Icon in Control Panel
  3. Run the rollback procedure.
  4. The only thing left to do is to choose a checkpoint that corresponds to the state of the computer when it was running smoothly.

Method 2: Remove updates

What to do if the installation of any Windows 8 update resulted in a system error. This situation does not require a full recovery. You can rollback the update that caused the failure.

  1. In Control Panel, find Programs and Features, open it.
  2. On the left side of the window, select View Installed Updates.Rollback updates to Programs and Features
  3. A list of all updates will be displayed, right-click on the desired element and select the delete item.
  4. You will need to restart your computer or laptop to apply the changes.

Method 3: Reset preferences

There is an option how to restore the system on Windows 8 by doing a full reset. All modified computer settings can be returned to their original values. In this case, user files are preserved, but various programs may be deleted.

Reset procedure:

  1. On your keyboard, press Win + I at the same time.
  2. In the menu that appears, select Change PC Settings.
  3. Open Update and Recovery.
  4. Go to the Recovery subsection.
  5. In the first block, click Start.Enable first Win 8 recovery option

The factory reset procedure will start. Wait for it to finish, at the end the computer will restart. The system has now returned to its original state.
