Apple is reportedly planning an even bigger Apple Watch, a display analyst says. The screen diagonal should be almost two inches.
Various analysts are hinting that a third, larger Apple Watch could appear in the fall. Ross Young, who says he has been in the display industry for 25 years, has now tweeted that a display with a diagonal of 1.99 inches (50 millimeters) can be assumed. This statement is backed up by statements by analyst Jeff Pu, who in a paper to investors also speaks of a 2-inch variant that is said to be manufactured by Apple supplier Luxshare.
Two possible reasons for the size
Compared to the 45 millimeter version of the Apple Watch Series 7 with a 1.901 inch display and the even smaller 41 mm version, the almost two inch screen would be noticeably larger. However, it is still unclear exactly what Apple plans to do with it. There are two different assumptions about this.
One thesis is that Apple is planning a more stable outdoor version of the Apple Watch that is also larger. This “rugged” version should be of particular interest to athletes, who will be offered more in watchOS 9 with expanded fitness functions.
The second assumption picks up on a rumor that many have already seen with a view to the Series 7 of the year 2021 certainly believed: There was talk of a new design with a flat display that has smoothly sloping housing edges on the sides – matching the iPhone. Due to the lack of rounded edges, this could also explain the slightly larger display size.
To be used with caution
A look at the current Series 7 shows, however, that the Apple Watch the well-known influencers and journalists like Jon Prosser and Mark Gurman not be as accurate as with other Apple products like the iPhone. Regarding the failed forecast of the flat design, it was then said that the information was not incorrect, but that the time of publication had been misinterpreted. Something similar could now also be the case with regard to the display size.
