Smartphone with 6.78 inch AMOLED display and extremely high sampling rate, rear screen, Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 and lots of memory – not only for gamers.
Asus brings under the name Rog Phone 6 new gaming smartphones on the market. These cell phones are primarily aimed at gamers, but should also be of interest to power users due to their elite hardware equipment. Many features have been adopted from the previous models, but brought up to date and in some cases significantly improved. The prices remain almost the same and start at 1000 euros.
Like the Asus Rog Phone 5s with Snapdragon 888 Plus introduced in November last year, the Rog Phone 6 models also rely on a 6.78-inch AMOLED Display in 20:9 format with 2448×1080 pixels protected by Corning Gorilla Glass Victus. However, the maximum display frequency has been increased from 144 to 165 Hertz and the sampling rate has practically been doubled to 720 Hz. This should ensure smoother scrolling and quicker reactions when operating.
The Rog Phone 6 smartphones are based on June Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 processor added by Qualcomm this year. Asus promises 50 percent better performance than the Snapdragon 888 variant that was still used in the Rog Phone 5s. Qualcomm itself speaks of 10 percent more performance compared to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 without Plus, which in turn is said to deliver 30 percent more performance than the Snapdragon 888.
Battery and triple camera like the predecessor
According to the manufacturer, the processor in the Rog Phone 6 has 12 to 18 GB of LPDDR5 main memory and 256 or 512 GB of UFS 3.1 storage space available, depending on the model. The battery capacity of the predecessor with 6000 mAh was taken over as well as the maximum charging power of 65 watts. Wireless charging is still not supported. This is probably due to the rear display, which shows system messages and battery status. The Rog Phone 6 offers an RGB matrix here, while the Rog Phone 6 Pro has a mini color display on the back.
The triple camera consists of a wide-angle main lens (50 megapixels, f/1.8 ), ultra wide-angle (13 MP) and macro camera (5 MP). The front camera still delivers 12 megapixels. The fingerprint sensor is integrated in the front screen, but face recognition is also supported. Dual speakers provide stereo sound, but there’s also a traditional 3.5mm headphone jack. The smartphone is not really waterproof, Asus only mentions IPX4 protection.
Gaming features and prices from 999 euros
Like its predecessors, the Rog Phone 6 stands out from other smartphones with its touch-sensitive properties surfaces in the housing frame. These react to pressure and swipe gestures and simulate shoulder buttons in games, as known from conventional controllers.
Asus offers the gaming phone with Google’s Android 12 in different model variants. The Rog Phone 6 is now available in black or white with 12/256 GB for 999 euros and with 16/512 GB for 1149 euros. The top model of the Rog Phone 6 Pro, on the other hand, will only be available in white. With 18/512 GB it should be available from the beginning of August for 1299 euros.
