With the X80 Pro, Vivo ventures into real high-end realms for the first time. The camera of the Android smartphone was again developed together with Zeiss.
Vivo is participating the X80 Pro, a luxury-class Android smartphone for Germany. The German company Zeiss was once again available as a partner in camera development.
The manufacturer, which belongs to the Chinese BBK Group, equips the X80 Pro with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 and gives the processor a befitting 12 GB LPDDR5 – Memory at hand. Vivo doesn’t save on the display either, the 6.78-inch OLED screen displays 3200 x 1440 pixels. The OLED panel, which is slightly curved on the long sides, achieves a maximum refresh rate of 120 Hz and comes from Samsung. The screen is protected by scratch-resistant glass from the manufacturer Schott, and the housing is protected against the ingress of dust and water according to IP68.
On the back of the Vivo X80 Pro is a protruding camera element, which was once again developed together with Zeiss became. Both companies maintain a joint team for the development of smartphone cameras. The X80 Pro has four rear cameras: 5x telephoto with 8 megapixels, double telephoto for portraits with 12 megapixels, ultra-wide angle with a 114-degree viewing angle and 48 megapixels, and a 50-megapixel main camera. Vivo and Zeiss have paid particular attention to particularly natural color reproduction and special bokeh filters for artificial depth of field. The Vivo V1+ image processing chip, which supports the Snapdragon SoC, should help here.
Fast charging with and without a cable
The Vivo X80 Pro has a permanently installed battery as usual a capacity of 4700 mAh. The included power supply shovels power into the battery with a maximum of 80 watts, wirelessly 50 watts are possible with the right charger. It can be unlocked with a fingerprint sensor under the display, which works with ultrasound instead of optical scanning. Bluetooth 5.2, 5G support and WiFi 6 come as standard. At 219 grams, the X80 Pro is comparatively heavy in your pocket. Android 12 is used as the operating system, with Vivo’s Funtouch OS interface on top. Vivo has not yet revealed how long the X80 Pro will receive updates.
For the entire package, Vivo is asking a steep price of 1299 euros. Sales in Germany are scheduled to start in July. Fans of colorful smartphones are staring at this newcomer, the Vivo X80 Pro will only be available in black.
